Paul Yeager: NASA Expedition 30 Video: Earth Like You've Never Seen It Before

NASA has released a spectacular video, recorded by the Expedition 30 crew aboard the International Space Station, that gives us Earth-bound residents a view of Earth unlike any other.

The video highlights man-made, astronomical, and meteorological features in a series of time-lapse photographs set to Howard Blake's other-worldly song "Walking in the Air."

The video includes city lights over Europe and the U.S., colorful views of both the Aurora Borealis and the Aurora Australis, stars over the southern U.S., a setting moon, and a blue comet (Lovejoy). From a weather perspective, there are some great shots of cloud formations from a different perspective than the typical satellite image, along with the sparkling nighttime thunderstorms from outer space.

The video would make a great recruiting tool for astronauts!

Detoxing is a word that we hear much about in the media, in the magazines, and on the net. Why are so many talking about detoxing and why are so many people still complaining about health issues? The fact is many people are unaware that there are many forms of detoxification. Some programs work and others do not. The reason for this is because people do not know what program to follow or they just listen to people that are not professionals in this category. Detoxing is serious and you could get hurt if you don?t do it right. I advise you to seek the right professional if you decide to go on a program. You may just need a mild cleanse while someone else may need a more aggressive cleanse. You may not know what cleanse you need and you might actually go for one that is not suited for your needs.

Do you rarely eat fresh fruits and veggies?

Do you eat red meat more than 2 times a week?

Do you eat fried food and junk foods?

Do you get allergies?

Do you suffer from constant colds?

Do you have mood swings?

Do you crave candy or sugary snacks?

Do you skip meals, especially breakfast?

Do you put weight on easy?

Do you find it difficult to concentrate?

Are you constipated or have less than one bowel movement a day?

Do you joints or muscles ache?

Do you fell tired most of the time?

Do you suffer from fungal infections?

Save your score so you may reference back to it if you decide to go on a detox plan;

If you scored 5 points or less you?re in pretty good shape. If you scored more than 5 points and up than you may want to seek the advice of a professional who can assist you on your detox program. The higher your score the more toxic you are. Note; it is wise not to try a program on your own because you may experience some side effects when detoxing. Seek the advice of a professional.

2011 Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency Upgrades ? The Minnesota ...

It?s tax time!! And the perfect time to remind you of the opportunities for energy?efficiency home improvement?tax credits. The tax credits?available?for improvements in 2011 are in general 10% of all energy efficient installations up to the maximum $500.

There are specific limits on certain equipment:

High efficiency furnaces and boilers?? $150
Air-Conditioners and ?heat pumps ? $300
Main air circulating fans ? $50
ENERGY STAR Windows ? 10% capped at $200
Energy efficient water heaters ? $300

A very important note to all of this is that these credits are only available who have not reach the cap of $500 over the years of 2006-2010. So for instance if you got $300 dollar credit in 2009 you can get up to $200 for 2011. Asexuality On The Rise; Could You Live A Life Without Sex?

Even though we can?t turn on the TV or flip through a magazine or drive down the highway without being bombarded by sex, believe it or not, not everyone is doing it. And not everyone wants to be doing it. The asexual movement is growing, and whether it?s because people are rejecting our society?s obsession with sexuality or because they are truly just not that into it, ?tens of thousands? of men and women are perfectly fine living a life without sex.

Self-proclaimed asexual, David Jay, says his life has never revolved around sex. Not even in high school when most boys? hormones are raging out of control. That?s because, like approximately 1% of the population, Jay identifies as asexual. And there?s nothing wrong with that, he says. So much so that he?s now America?s best known asexual spokesperson, appearing on everything from The View to MTV, and even starting an online community which now reportedly attracts tens of thousands of other asexual people.

The Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN) is a site dedicated to raising awareness of asexuality and giving a sense of belonging to others who have felt alienated from the sexual focus that dominates our culture today.

Asexual people are not the same as celibate people. Basically, asexuality is the absence of sexual attraction?it?s not necessarily a choice like celibacy is. Some asexual people are married or in a relationship, some aren?t. Some are even sexually active just to please their partners, but admit they have no interest in sex. Some think sex is disgusting, some are indifferent, and some have never even kissed another person.

But it?s not because they are cold, unsociable people without a desire to have any relationships. They just don?t have a desire for a sexual relationship?like Jay (and thousands of others), even though he says for years he just assumed he was ?broken?. But now he realizes it?s just who he is.

He also realizes that sex today has gotten so far away from what it should be:

It?s not that we talk about sex too much. It?s that we celebrate sex in a way that is inauthentic. If we were to have a widespread, accurate discussion of sexuality ? all the things that it means and doesn?t mean to people ? that would include a discussion of the fact that sex is not interesting to everyone at some points, and that?s okay, and sex is not interesting to some people all the time, and that?s okay. Instead, I think what we have is a dialogue that fetishizes and celebrates sexuality, and equates it with the sum of our value and relationships.

Mark Carrigan, a researcher at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom told the Atlantic that sexuality is different for every person?even if that means a lack of it. He calls it ?the sexual assumption??a notion that is embedded in our society ?the idea that everyone has sexual attraction, that it?s this powerful force inside of you, and that it is experienced the same way by every person.?

But not everyone agrees that a life without sex is normal. On a blog by sex columnist Dan Savage, one commenter wrote:

People who are ?asexual? are not the norm. Being not the norm most likely means there is something either mentally or physically wrong. Guilt, shame, hormones and physical deformity probably play major roles. Why else would somebody forego one of life?s most pleasent experiences? There is nothing wrong with sex.

Someone else commented:

The idea of there being NOTHING inside, no juice, no drives at all ? well, to my mind that is the ULTIMATE FREAKINESS, the one eternally unfathomable kink.

About ten years ago, there was a really cool movie called ?Pi.?? Sadly ? but perhaps not surprisingly ? it sunk without a trace.? But the premise of ?Pi? is pretty nifty: a genius named Max finds that stock market trends can be revealed in ? you guessed it ? the Bible.? Kind of like a Dan Brown-meets-Warren Buffet thriller.

As you can guess, there are bad guys in the movie ? the suits ? and the movie is one big action sequence as Max tries to elude is pursuers while simultaneously unlocking the financial revelations in the 4,000-year-old text.

The good news is you don?t need to pour over the Old Testament or incur the wrath of faceless, murderous plutocrats to make money by studying patterns and trends in the stock market.?

Gregg Williams Locker Room Rant: Kill the Head!

It's safe to say Gregg Williams will never coach in the NFL ever again.

Already suspended indefinitely by Commissioner Roger Goodell - due to his role in a New Orleans Saints bounty program, in which players under his control pooled money and offered it was a reward for debilitating hits - Williams is in the spotlight again this week because audio of a speech he delivered prior to a 2012 playoff game against the 49ers has been leaked.

And it isn't pretty.

Gregg Williams Locker Room Speech: Hit the Head!

As you can hear in the video above, Williams encourages his players to "kill the head" and "the body will die."

Referring to San Francisco running back Frank Gore, Williams tells his charges: "We've got to do everything in the world to make sure we kill Frank Gore's head. We want him running sideways. We want his head sideways.”

At other points, he screams at the Saints to take out receiver Michael Crabtree's ACL and to focus on receiver Kyle Williams' head because he has a history of concussions.

The speech was recorded and released by documentary filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, who was filming in the locker room for a special he plans to produce on Saints special-teams player Steve Gleason, who is battling ALS.

World is ignoring most important lesson from Fukushima nuclear disaster

Fukushima's most important lesson is this:?Probability theory (that disaster is unlikely) failed us. If you have made assumptions, you are not prepared.?Nuclear power plants should have multiple, reliable ways to cool reactors.?Any nuclear plant that doesn't heed this lesson is inviting disaster.

A year has now passed since the complete core meltdown of three boiling water reactors at Tokyo Electric Power Company?s Fukushima No.1 plant. Because of the limited information issued by the Japanese government ? and its insistence that the disaster was only a result of the unanticipated magnitude of the earthquake and tsunami ? the world does not know what really happened and will thus draw the wrong lessons.

The most critical lesson for the global nuclear industry to learn, since most plants around the world do not face tsunami or earthquake risks, is that no one imagined that the external electricity supply from outside the plant that would cool the reactors could be disrupted. That assumption, just like the assumption that a natural event of the size that took place was unlikely, was based on ?probability theory? taught to all nuclear engineers. It is the basis ? wrongly ? for telling the public that nuclear power generation is ?safe.?

As a nuclear core designer who obtained my doctorate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Nuclear Engineering, I volunteered to look into the situation at Fukushima No.1 in June of 2011. Goushi Hosono, Japan?s minister of Nuclear Power and Environment, personally granted me access to the information and personnel who were directly involved in the containment operations of the post-disaster nuclear plants.

My now completed investigation shows that the Fukushima accident could have been avoided if the plant had the capacity for electricity generation of any form along with the appropriate heat sink (a supply of water to cool down reactor rods). Despite the ?unexpectedly high? tsunami that caused the accident, two reactors, Nos. 5 and 6, remained intact, though they were damaged to the same extent as the other four reactors by the earthquakes and tsunami. The difference was that they had an additional source of electricity beyond links to the outside grid through an air-cooled emergency diesel engine.

The most important lesson of Fukushima No.1 plant, therefore, is that we should have a multiplicity of means to provide a continuous electric supply and heat sinks. This is not the same as ?You should not put all the eggs in one basket.? We should have eggs and apples in a few different baskets.

If a country or company wants to operate a nuclear reactor, it should not assume anything about potential disasters ? be they earthquakes, tsunamis, terrorist attacks, or a plane crash. No matter what happens, the reactor must be brought to cold shutdown, which requires electricity and heat sinks. It is a pretty simple principle.

There is a more general lesson for all operating nuclear facilities: If you have made assumptions, then you are not prepared.

All the nuclear reactors in the world have been designed by probability assumptions, originally proposed by Prof. Norman Rasmussen of MIT. It is a scientific way of expressing what the public will accept.

For example, what is the probability of a plane crushing into Yankee Stadium with a full audience during the World Series? This can be calculated with certain assumptions, and, the theory goes, that ?level of probability of accidents? is something people tacitly accept because it is very unlikely to happen. The same principle was followed at Fukushima: Assumptions were made about possible causes of nuclear plant accidents, and engineering precautions were made accordingly so that ?the reactor is safe.?

One of the most fun things about my job at Marketri is that I get to research and test out new social media and marketing tools. What makes that process even better is when my research results in a discovery that either helps us achieve our goals internally, or that might help our clients to achieve their marketing goals. The only thing that tops this is when the tables are turned and the client tells me about a new tool! This is precisely what happened to me this week. I received an email from one of our clients letting me know about a new site called Houzz and telling me to give it a look. Needless to say, I jumped into detective mode and started looking into this site.

What is Houzz?

Houzz is Web site that brings together architects, designers, builders, contractors and the people who are interested in their services. It is essentially like Pinterest but strictly for home design. Houzz has been called the ?Wikipedia of interior and exterior design? by CNN and has one of the largest databases of home design ideas online. Houzz allows both consumers and building/design professionals to sign up and start sharing ideas and information.

After creating an account, users can browse tons of design ideas and high resolution photos by almost any imaginable category. Houzz gives you the option to view ideas by design style, space type, metro area and more. As you sift through the images you have the option to add photos to your own personalized ?ideabooks? with the simple click of a button. You can create multiple ideabooks to organize different design ideas, such as by design style or perhaps by ideas for a particular part of the house. During my experimentation I had a little too much fun dreaming about a huge new closet!

In addition to ideabooks, Houzz also gives users the option to upload their own photos, recommend photos to others and to participate in discussions. Users can filter by discussion topics and participate in the conversation. In this forum, people ask questions and weigh in on everything from the source of materials to specific design issues or inquiries. Needless to say, I quickly found this site just as addictive as the reviews said it was.

How do professionals benefit?

While I enjoyed testing out the features of Houzz from the consumer perspective, my purpose really was to understand how our clients ? professionals in the building and design industry- could benefit by using this site. What I found is that Houzz can be an excellent marketing tool for architects, designers, and home builders because it gives them another platform where they can found by prospects.

Like individuals using the site, professionals can create an account and share ideas. Professionals can fill out their profiles with information about their firm and a link to their Web site. They can also add photo albums of all of their projects to showcase the work that they do. This is a great way to communicate the style, quality and variety of work that your firm can offer.

These photo albums ultimately become the basis of users? ?ideabooks? and recommendations. Not only will users click on the photos to learn more about the company/individual behind the work, but they also have the ability to share their ?finds? with others either within?Houzz or on other social media sites like Facebook (that are linked to the Houzz site).? In addition to showcasing their work, professionals can also build credibility and thought leadership among their target audience, by searching for questions in the discussion area and answering those that they have experience with.

Not only am I looking forward to adding more photos to my own personal ideabooks on Houzz, but I am also interested to see the business results that this site can achieve for our clients once they establish their presence. VIDEO: Dallas twisters toss tractor trailers into air

At least two tornadoes touched down near Dallas on Tuesday. The National Weather Service declared a tornado emergency for Dallas-Fort Worth, as warning sirens echoed throughout the downtown area. The weather service issued tornado warnings for dozens of counties in the area.

Reports of massive damage across North Texas were rampant, as local television news captured images of the twisters?each thought to be about a half-mile wide. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

"This is as serious of a tornado we've seen in years," meteorologist Larry Mowry said on CBS' Dallas affiliate.

According to Yahoo! Dallas editor Jason Sickles, the first, spotted about 20 miles south of Fort Worth, was believed to be on the ground for 30 minutes.

The DFW International Airport was shut down, and airline passengers were rushed to safe areas. Reports of a third tornado near the Texas Motor Speedway circulated. Local highways were closed as funnel clouds raced by.

A CNN affiliate showed video of one of the tornadoes "tossing tractor trailers like toys" at a truck depot.

Mike Masco, a meteorologist and senior forecaster with LiveWeatherBlogs.com, tweeted a dramatic image of one truck tossed into the air.

One of the tornadoes narrowly missed the Ballpark in Arlington, where the Rangers were scheduled to play a night exhibition. Mike Napoli, the Rangers' catcher, captured footage on his phone. According to Accuweather.com, the Six Flags amusement park in Arlington sustained "significant damage."

At least 28,000 Oncor electricity customers were without power, according to ABC's WFAA-TV. The Salvation Army set up a disaster shelter in Arlington, the network said.

WFAA also aired an aerial video surveying the damage.

Mexican drug kingpin to be sentenced in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (AP) ? Benjamin Arellano Felix seemed to get off easy considering he was one of the world's most powerful drug traffickers in the 1990s. He pleaded guilty in January to crimes that would give him no more than 25 years in prison ? a lighter punishment than ordered for lower-ranking members of his once-mighty, Tijuana-based cartel.

Now, in an 11th-hour twist, Arellano Felix, 58, fired his attorney just before his sentencing Monday in federal court, fueling speculation that he may be having second thoughts about his plea. He gave no explanation for wanting to change lawyers in his request to U.S. District Judge Larry Burns two weeks ago.

"It was very surprising to me," said Anthony Colombo Jr., the fired attorney who negotiated the agreement with prosecutors to cap the sentence at 25 years. "The sentencing is a pro-forma hearing. The heavy lifting is done."

Burns confirmed sentencing would take place Monday when he granted Arellano Felix's request to hire Nicholas De Pento, a San Diego criminal defense attorney. De Pento did not respond to a phone message Friday.

Burns, a former federal prosecutor who is also presiding over the case against Tucson shooting rampage suspect Jared Lee Loughner, is known as a stickler for staying on schedule. In the aftermath of 2007 wildfires that ravaged San Diego, he reopened his courtroom a day before every other judge in the federal building to resume the trial of Brent Wilkes, a defense contractor who was convicted of bribing former U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham.

Still, Burns might be hard-pressed if Arellano Felix says he had an inadequate defense. John Kirby, a former federal prosecutor who co-wrote the 2003 indictment against Arellano Felix, predicted the judge would ask the parties to reconvene in six weeks under that scenario.

"It's very strange," Kirby said.

Prosecutors are seeking a 25-year sentence for racketeering and conspiracy to launder money, saying Arellano Felix led one of Mexico's largest drug trafficking organizations for more than 15 years and oversaw the shipment of hundreds of tons of cocaine and marijuana to the United States. He ordered kidnappings and killings of informants and potential witnesses, oversaw widespread corruption of Mexican law enforcement and laundered hundreds of millions of dollars to Mexico.

Arellano Felix has "destroyed lives and caused untold suffering on both sides of the border," prosecutors said in a court filing last week.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors offered to dismiss charges that could have brought 140 years in prison if he was convicted.

De Pento, the new defense attorney, did not file documents to argue for what he considers a fair punishment.

Francisco Javier Arellano Felix, a younger brother who led the cartel after Benjamin was arrested in Mexico in 2002, was sentenced in San Diego to life in prison in 2007, a year after he was captured by U.S. authorities in international waters off Mexico's Baja California coast. Jesus Labra Aviles, a lieutenant under Benjamin Arellano Felix, was sentenced in San Diego to 40 years in prison in 2010.

It is unclear why prosecutors agreed to a lighter sentence for Benjamin Arellano Felix, who was extradited from Mexico in April 2011. He is one of the highest-profile kingpins to face prosecution in the United States.

His cartel, portrayed in the Steven Soderbergh film "Traffic," slowly lost its grip after Benjamin Arellano Felix was arrested in 2002. A month earlier, his brother, Ramon, the cartel's top enforcer, died in a shootout with Mexican authorities.
